A Sudowrite alternative for readers rather than authors
Sudowrite is the tool serious fiction writers use when they use AI at all, and it has earned that. If you are an author, most of this page will tell you to stay. If you are a reader who has been using an author's tool because it was the only one that would write the scenes you wanted, the rest of it is for you.
What Sudowrite does well
Structure, above everything. Sudowrite has the best set of structural tools in the market: the Story Bible, which holds your characters, settings, style and outline and feeds them into every generation; Story Engine, which takes you from synopsis to outline to chapter beats to prose; and a canvas for mapping beats visually. It has a model of its own, trained on published novels and short stories, which writes more like a book than a general model does. Around the core it has a workshop of smaller tools: expand, describe, rewrite in five different directions, summarise, get feedback. It is an author's desk, and it is a good one.
It also knows what it is for. Sudowrite's own pages about adult and unrestricted writing are numerous, and its users write in every genre, including this one.
If you are writing a novel, want control of every sentence, and want to publish under your own name, Sudowrite is the better product. It is not close.
What DesireBorn is instead
DesireBorn is not for writing. It is for reading. You do not get a document, a canvas or a rewrite button, because you are not meant to be doing the work. You give the engine a starting idea, one line is enough, and the optional details you care about: people, dynamic, tone, point of view, tense, explicitness, how much should happen per section. It plans the story with an ending in view and a beat for each section, writes one section at a time, and keeps a story state between sections so that what was established early still holds late. You read a section, then steer the next in a sentence or leave the field open and let it continue.
Sudowrite's Story Bible and DesireBorn's story state are answers to the same problem, and they are answers for different people. The Story Bible is a thing you build and maintain; that is its strength, because you control it. The story state is a thing the engine builds and maintains from what it has written; that is its strength, because you do not have to. An author wants the first. A reader wants the second.
Things DesireBorn will not do, so you know: no export, no editing of prose, no style choices, no model choice. The machine is our decision; the story is yours. No images, no community, no sharing, no fan fiction in named franchises. English only.
Adult fiction
Both products write it. On DesireBorn it is the product, and the explicitness is a level you set per story, from a scene that closes at the door to one that stays in the room for as long as the scene needs. Everything lawful between consenting adults is fair game.
One limit is fixed on every story. Every character in a sexual context is an adult. It cannot be turned off, softened or configured, by you or by us. No shame. Not no limits.
Privacy
Sudowrite is built for authors who intend to publish, and its privacy posture is that of a writing tool. DesireBorn is built for a reader who does not intend anyone to see what she reads. Your stories are encrypted at rest. We can read them to write them. Nobody else can read them. The key is not in the database, so a leak of the database is a leak of email addresses and menu choices, not of prose. When she deletes a story, its key is destroyed with it and nobody, including us, can bring the text back.
Who should try it
You are not writing a book. You want one written for you, long, at the heat you choose, and you do not want to maintain a bible to get it. It is free while we are testing, no card, no subscription. Give it the premise you have been feeding Sudowrite and read what arrives.
Descriptions of Sudowrite are as of August 2026 and are our reading of their public site. Check theirs for the current state.
