Romantasy, in a world the story does not forget
Romantasy is fantasy where the romance is the spine, not the subplot. The court is real and so is the war, but the reader is turning pages to find out when the fae prince will stop pretending, or whether the mate bond is a gift or a trap. Its tropes are its own: fated mates, the bargain with a hidden cost, the training arc that is really a courtship, the enemy general, the hidden heir, the magic that only works when she stops fighting him. It is enormous right now and it is a genre readers want long. A romantasy in six sections is a short story with wings.
Length is the difficulty. A fantasy world has rules, and a romance inside it has history, and both have to be remembered at the same time. If the engine forgets that iron burns him, or that she swore an oath in section two that binds her in section twenty, the world stops being a world. Most AI tools manage the romance or the magic. Neither survives forty pages.
How the engine carries a world
DesireBorn writes from a plan, with an ending in view and a beat for each section, and it keeps a story state that travels between sections: what has been established as canon, who the people are and what they have done, which threads are still open, and what has been planted for later. In romantasy, canon is the magic system and the politics, and the engine treats a rule you set as a rule. The story has to work inside it.
Your own world, not someone else's. DesireBorn does not write fan fiction in named franchises, and it does not need to. Give it the shape of your court and your magic in a line or two, or give it nothing but "a mortal cartographer is taken as tribute to a winter court" and let it build the rest to fit. Anything you leave open is chosen to suit your starting idea, and you can correct it between sections if the story gets the rules wrong.
After every section you steer or you let it run. Romantasy readers often want to be surprised by the world and in control of the romance, and the steering field lets you do exactly that: leave the war to the engine, and tell it when she finally says his name.
Themes from the catalogue
Slow burn romance is the heart of most romantasy and it is the first theme to tick. Forbidden affair covers the mate she is not supposed to have; Dominance and Submission cover the bond and what it does to the power between them; Strangers is for the version that begins with an abduction or a bargain. All optional. Tick what matters.
An example
The bond had been quiet for three days, which was worse than when it burned. She found him on the north wall in the snow, not wearing enough, and stood beside him until he spoke.
"You are supposed to be able to feel it too."
"I can."
"Then why," he said, and did not finish, because she had put her cold hand inside his collar against the skin of his throat, and the bond was not quiet any more.

Where the line is
Fae, shifters, immortals and mortals are all welcome, and they are written as adult people with judgement and choices, whatever else the lore makes them. The one limit does not bend for setting. Every character in a sexual context is an adult, and that cannot be turned off, softened or configured by you or by us. Within it, everything lawful between consenting adults is yours, and how explicit the story is, is a level you set.
No shame. Not no limits.
Who can read what you build
Your stories are encrypted at rest. We can read them to write them. Nobody else can read them. A copy of our database, in someone else's hands, gives up email addresses, menu choices and counts, and not one readable line of your court.
DesireBorn is free while we are testing, with no card and no subscription. Start with the world in one line, or the bargain, or just the two of them.
