Forbidden love, and what it costs
A forbidden romance is two adults and a rule. The rule is what makes it: the marriage one of them is already in, the firm's policy, the family that would never forgive it, the vow. Readers do not come to the genre for the sex, though it delivers; they come for the pressure. Every scene is lit by the possibility of being seen. The pleasure is in watching two people decide, again and again, that it is worth it, and in the moment the reader is no longer sure it is.
It is a genre of consequences, and consequences are memory. If the story forgets in section ten that her sister is the one person who cannot know, the tension is gone. If it forgets that they agreed on rules of their own, never at the house, never by name in writing, the affair has no shape. A forbidden romance written by a model with no memory of its own story is just a romance with the lights off.
What DesireBorn keeps track of
The engine plans first. It writes an outline with an ending it is aiming for and a beat for each section, so the affair is going somewhere rather than repeating itself. Then it writes section by section and keeps a story state between them: who knows what, what has been established, which threads are open, and what has been planted for later. The near miss in section four is remembered in section fifteen. The person who almost saw them is still a person who might.
You steer or you do not. After each section there is a field: bring the husband home early, let a colleague notice, make one of them try to end it. Or leave it open and let the engine decide when the pressure finally tells. Some readers of this genre want their hand on every turn; others want to be caught off guard. The story works either way.
One line is enough to start. "Her best friend's older brother, the summer she comes home to sell the house" gives the engine the rule, the proximity and the clock. Add the people if you have them, or let the story introduce them.
Themes that belong to the genre
Forbidden affair is the catalogue theme built for this, and then it depends on the flavour: Slow burn romance for the version that takes half the book to begin; Voyeurism for stories where being seen is the fear and the thrill at once; Strangers for an affair that starts before either knows who the other is; Submission for a dynamic where one of them is entirely at the other's mercy because of what the other could reveal. Tick what fits.
An example
They had a rule about the office and they broke it on a Tuesday. She had come in to sign something, and he had stood to close the door, and neither of them said a word about the rule. The blinds were open. Anyone crossing the car park could have looked up. He knew it, and she watched him know it, and when he put his hand flat against the glass beside her head it was not to steady himself.

Where the line is
Affairs, secrecy, deception and two people wrecking a life for each other are the material of this genre, and between adults they are fiction and fair game at whatever level of explicitness you choose.
One limit does not move. Every character in a sexual context is an adult. It cannot be turned off, softened or configured, not by you and not by us. No shame. Not no limits.
Privacy, which matters more in this genre than most
Your stories are encrypted at rest. We can read them to write them. Nobody else can read them. If our database were copied or stolen, the copy would give up email addresses, the choices ticked in our menus and some counts, and not a readable word of anyone's story. Deleting a story destroys its key in the same operation; nobody can restore it afterwards, including us.
DesireBorn is free while we are testing. No card, no subscription. Start with the rule, and see who breaks it first.
